4 L Wide Conditioning Box

A cheese conditioning box is a practical, versatile tool for ripening and storing cheese. It helps create the humid, controlled environment needed for white mould and smear-ripened rinds, while also providing drainage. It is also useful for storing fresh cheeses in the fridge, keeping brined cheeses like feta fully submerged and surface salted cheeses like Farmhouse ‘basted’.  We have a box for every occasion!  All our cheese conditioning boxes are BPA and PVC free, dishwasher safe, and suitable for use in the fridge or freezer.

4 litre wide conditioning box measures 30.3cm long x 22.8cm wide x 7.8cm high with a 4-litre capacity.  The internal drainage mat measures 29.1cm long x 21.5cm wide and is a snug fit in the base of this container that tapers slightly, meaning no space is wasted. This box is shallower and wider than our other 4 litre box so suits short stature cheeses.

Perfect for white mould or smear rind development and will hold 6 cheeses made in our 10cm diameter camembert moulds or 8+ Fresh Cheeses from mini moulds.   By maintaining a humid environment, this conditioning box helps encourage the growth of a white or bloomy rind. Humidity can be adjusted by placing the lid more or less askew and never fully closed, allowing some airflow while still retaining moisture. You are looking for condensation but not dripping water.  We also sell small, lightweight hygrometers that can be stuck to the inside lid of the box to monitor relative humidity should you wish.  The drainage mat allows small amounts of whey to drain away while helping air circulate around the cheese. Any collected whey should be tipped out regularly, and the box wiped with absorbent paper towel as needed.

This is an oversized item. If you would like to order more than two cheese conditioning boxes at once or include another large item such as a basket mould or cheese making kit with your order, please send us an enquiry first so we can provide a shipping quote. Smaller items can usually be packed inside the boxes. We aim to reply the same day. All items are carefully wrapped and packed together to help keep shipping costs as low as we can.
