The Urban Cheese Company started its life in the urban heart of Christchurch, and has resided in the township of West Melton on the outskirts of Christchurch since 2017. It is owned and operated by Andrea, who’s cheesemaking journey started over 12 years ago when she swapped a washing machine for two adorable goats and a passion blossomed.

Self-sufficiency and food security has been the family’s life goal and cheese making was an obvious fun addition. In 2017, the company’s previous owner wanted to focus her efforts on a new business, so in fear of losing her culture supplier Andrea purchased The Urban Cheese Company. Sadly no washing machines or goats were exchanged this time! The Brough family milk around 15 goats by hand each season and are self-sufficient in dairy products.
